Categorisation of Holiday Homes and Apartments

What is property categorisation?

Categorisation is a legally required procedure for anyone who wishes to provide accommodation services to tourists. The process begins with submitting a request to the competent authority, together with the necessary documentation regarding the property and ownership.

The minimum technical requirements vary depending on the type of accommodation, but usually include adequate space, ventilation, water supply, sanitary facilities and basic equipment. Additional features influence the final category, that is, the number of stars. For apartments and holiday homes, commonly required elements include an equipped kitchen, quality furniture, air conditioning and proper bedding.

After reviewing the documentation and, if necessary, conducting a site inspection, the categorisation decision is issued, allowing the property to operate legally. This article provides an overview of the basic requirements and procedure so that hosts know what to expect and can prepare all necessary documents in advance.
